The delivery consists of a set of 5 coolers for a hydrogen compressor. This includes a pre-cooler, 3 interstage coolers, and 1 aftercooler. The compressor is used for charging hydrogen tanks at high pressure, up to 1,000 barg.
For high-pressure hydrogen applications, ROBOX has developed its own heat exchangers, our so-called micro Shell & Tubes (mS&T). These resemble TEMA types BEU and BFU, where hydrogen passes through the tubes and the cover is fully welded. Additionally, the mS&T utilizes 1/4″ tubes to minimize wall thickness and maximize surface area. This results in a very compact exchanger.
Our client designed the compressor themselves, specifically for this application. ROBOX, in turn, supported the client with the design of the associated coolers. This was necessary, among other reasons, for cases where the compressor bypasses certain stages, meaning the coolers must be suitable for various operating scenarios.
These are micro Shell & Tube heat exchangers. A 2-pass shell and 2-pass tube side. U-bundle integrally welded with the cover and shell. TEMA type BFU. Stainless steel 316(L), PED cat. IV/Mod. H1 and ASME BPVC VIII.
