Gas Cooler

Classification Classification: Gas cooler, multi-bundle air cooler, plug-type headers made of super duplex
FeaturesAir cooler, intercooler for a high-pressure compressor. The installation is for an unmanned offshore platform. Due to weather conditions, the client opted for super duplex as the material for the process side.

Gas Cooler

Compressing natural gas causes it to heat up. This gas is cooled by the air cooler so that it can be further compressed in the next pressure stage of the compressor without exceeding maximum temperatures.

This results in an air cooler with 5 separate bundles on a single bay with fans. The headers of the bundle are plug headers due to the requirement that the air cooler must be cleanable. The plug headers are welded because of the high pressure (111 bar) and client specifications. The tube-to-tubesheet connections are made using internal bore welding. Due to potential condensate or excess gas, each bundle is equipped with a drain and a vent nozzle.

This concerns an air cooler, PHFP 4/ 3600×2000 with 5 bundles, multiple passes per bundle, 2 fans, and removable plugs. Entirely in Super Duplex according to PED cat. IV/Mod. H1, API 661, and EN13445.
