Economizer, Evaporator

CNG installation intended for a filling station to refuel CNG at the desired pressure and temperature.

The economizer/condenser are used to cool and condense the compressed gas using boil-off gas. The economizer is a gas cooler without phase transition. In the condenser, the gas is cooled to such an extent that it condenses. In the evaporator, the gas is cooled by evaporating a refrigerant on the other side.

CNG is a clean fossil fuel with low emissions. It is essentially compressed natural gas. Heat exchangers are required for the proper functioning of a CNG filling station. To operate energy-efficiently, boil-off gas is used to cool compressed gas. Refrigerant that evaporates is also used for low-temperature cooling. Due to the low temperatures and the phase transition of both the compressed gas and the refrigerant, accurate process simulation is indispensable. Thanks to ROBOX’s thermal expertise, these simulations could be carried out reliably. The client’s desire to apply the same installation more frequently made it even more important to realize the most efficient and compact design. This was achieved through smart design and the application of turbulators to increase heat transfer. The installation has since been successfully built and delivered several times by the client.

These are Shell & Tube heat exchangers. All are fixed tubesheet exchangers with an integral welded bonnet and executed in stainless steel. TEMA type BEM. Entirely in stainless steel according to PED cat. II and III mod. A2 and H. Designed according to ASME VIII Div. 1.
