Underground Glycol Air Cooler

ClassificationLiquid cooler, air cooler, high-finned tubes, bonnet-type header.
FeaturesFor Underground Gas Storage Epe (Germany), gas dehydration package & glycol regeneration unit. Our client designs and supplies this unit, which requires a glycol (TEG) air cooler. This provides the necessary cooling for the glycol.

Underground Glycol Air Cooler

Cooling is achieved by means of an air cooler. The product is cooled using ambient air. Fins are attached to the tubes to increase the surface area. Wire mesh inserts are used to improve heat transfer within the tubes.

Due to the viscous nature of the product and the laminar flow, heat transfer is not very high. The use of inserts significantly improves this, allowing for a smaller cooler. The bonnet-type headers make the tubes accessible for cleaning or inspection.

Since hydrate formation can occur at low temperatures, the air cooler was equipped with winterization using louvres and electric heaters. This allows the product temperature to remain at the desired minimum during downtime and in the winter months without hydrate formation occurring.

Through clever design and the use of inserts, the size of the air cooler could be limited.

This concerns an air cooler. A multi-pass high-finned (aluminum fins) bundle with removable bonnet-type headers, type BHFB 4 / 4900 x 2560. Entirely in carbon steel according to PED Cat. I / Mod. A, AD2000, and API 661 (ISO 13706).
