This reactor is supplied to the pharmaceutical industry. The exothermic reaction that is needed for the production of a specific ingredient is taking place in this reactor.
During the operation of the production process, the retention time is important and could be changed by exchanging plungers in the header. The plungers control the amount of passes a medium make trough the reactor with a maximum of 25 passes. With the plungers a medium could first be heated or cooled to the desired temperature and then the injection of a second medium will start the reaction.
The plug type header is required because of the design pressure and temperature and the fact that via the plugs a various amount of plungers, injection nozzles and mixers can be installed. This ensures that the mixing of the reaction is fully controlled.
This concerns a PEP 141 / 1000 shell&tube plug-flow, plunger-type reactor, executed in Hastelloy, according ASME VIII Div.1 and PED cat. IV/Mod.1
